Home Of Greenpoint Heavy Metal Bar To Be Replaced By Apartments
The former home of the neighborhood's favorite heavy metal bar will be torn down and replaced with an apartment building, records show.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The former home of Greenpoint’s beloved Bar Matchless will be torn down and replaced with a modern apartment building, city records show.
Developers filed permits on July 3 to demolish the small building at 561 Manhattan Ave. — where Bar Matchless served up drinks and heavy metal for almost 15 years until forced to close in January — and build a six-story building can up, according to Department of Buildings records show.
Architecture firm S. M. Tam filed the application to build a mixed-use building with room for a ground-floor eatery and eight apartments, records show.

Greenpointers reported in December that Bar Matchless was forced to close because the Manhattan Avenue building was sold.
Bi Hang Cheng, bought the building for $4,450,000 earlier this year and has not yet applied for demolition permits, according to the Greenpoint Post.
