'Blade Runner' Screenwriter Will Visit Greenpoint Movie Viewing
Hampton Fancher will join a New York Times magazine writer and "Blade Runner" documentarian to discuss the legendary science fiction films.
GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — The screenwriter of the "Blade Runner" movies will join his fellow Brooklynites this weekend to discuss the legendary science fiction films in Greenpoint, event organizers announced.
Hampton Fancher, the screenwriter for the 1980s film and its 2017 sequel, will join a New York Times magazine writer Elizabeth Rubin and a "Blade Runner" documentarian Charles de Lauzirika for a screening of the film at Greenpoint Palace on Saturday.
The Nassau Avenue event space will have a screening of the 2007 "final cut" version of the dystopian film complete with noodles to eat and music from local DJs. The guests will then talk to Fancher, who lives in Brooklyn Heights, about the films.

"Of course, we will show Blade Runner and eat noodles, but the talk between Hampton, Elizabeth and Charles promises to be a unique experience, an insight into the reclusive Fancher’s thought processes and stories related to the development and making of one of the greatest science fiction films ever made,” said Paul Sullivan, director of Shining Splice, which will host the event.
Rubin, who said she has been friends with Fancher for decades, said she and him first met in 1997 when Fancher and Blade Runner filmmaker Ridley Scott optioned a story of hers.

De Lauzirika also has connections to the franchise, including as a restoration producer on "Blade Runner: Final Cut," the version of the film that will be shown at the screening. De Lauzirika directed a documentary about the movies called "Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner."
The screening will begin at 6 p.m. with doors opening at the Greenpoint Palace, found at 206 Nassau Ave., at 5 p.m. Before the screening, there will be a video intorcution made by Scott that was recorded for the Teesside Blade Runner convention.
Drinks, noodles and the question-and-answer session will follow the screening before DJ sets from Joe McLaughlin and M.P. Messenie. The tickets, which can be found here, don't include the price of drinks and noodles, organizers said.
