Williamsburg's First Medical Weed Dispensary Opens For Business
The neighborhood's first medical weed dispensary, the sixth in NYC and third in BK in just a year, opened Thursday at the base of Pod Hotel.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Brooklyn's rapidly-growing medical weed scene just got a new member.
The first medical marijuana dispensary in Williamsburg officially opened Thursday at the base of the neighborhoods Pod Hotel, becoming the first weed dispensary for the neighborhood and the third to open in the borough in less than a year.
The new dispensary, called Remedy, opened up shop at 178 North Fourth St. with a ribbon cutting Thursday morning, nearly three months after first signing the lease for the 3,800-square-foot space. The new spot is owned by Valley Agriceuticals, which was recently acquired by an even larger cannabis company, Cresco Labs.

“Many people in our communities suffer needlessly from pain or can’t sleep or have appetite issues from any one of the conditions – this is a day for them to celebrate that there’s a new form of relief in Williamsburg," Cresco President and Co-Founder Joe Caltabiano said.

The outpost is the company's fourth in New York, meaning it will be its last given that cannabis companies certified to open up shop in New York are limited to four dispensing locations.
It joins two other Brooklyn spots, one in Park Slope and another in Brooklyn Heights, that were opened by other weed companies earlier this year.
The new dispensary will offer capsules, topical creams, vape pens and cartridges and oral tinctures, Cresco said. Patients who are certified for medical marijuana by the state can stop in to get 30-day supplies of the products from the dispensary's trained staff.
“Our Remedy staff was trained by some of the leading cannabis experts in the country on the types of cannabis strains, delivery methods and what medicinal benefits are unique to them," Caltabiano said. "We understand that this type of medicine is new for most people and we look forward to educating patients and the community, so they feel comfortable using this form of relief."
The North Fourth Street storefront is one of several retail spaces at the base of the Pod Hotel, which has its entrance on Metropolitan Avenue.
The first Brooklyn dispensary, Citiva, opened in the Park Slope in January and was shortly followed by a new medical weed dispensary in Brooklyn Heights, which announced in February they would open up a spot on Court Street. That dispensary is run by Columbia Care, which runs three other dispensaries in the state and was the first to open a dispensary in New York City.
The Williamsburg dispensary will be the sixth to open city-wide.
