Canarsie Tunnel Troubles Delay L Trains Before Rush Hour: MTA

An obstruction in the East River tunnel delayed L trains Thursday morning, according to the MTA.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Problems in the Canarsie Tunnel delayed L trains Thursday morning just before rush hour began, according to the MTA.

Some Manhattan-bound L train service stopped at Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn as MTA workers removed an obstruction caused by loose wiring, the MTA announced at about 6:20 a.m.

Straphangers were told to expect delays in both directions after the trains were stalled, and on the J train, which ran local to provide additional service.

The obstruction occurred amid a 15-month L train slowdown during which time the MTA hopes to fix damage to the Canarsie Tunnel caused during Hurricane Sandy.

Gov. Cuomo's decision not to shut down the tunnel entirely, instead opting for repairs during off hours, frustrated some delayed commuters Thursday morning.
