GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — A 72-year-old man died on Thursday after a driver lost control and hit the security booth he had been sitting in, police said.

The 62-year-old driver of a Ford Explorer had been going north on Provost Street around 8 p.m. when he turned onto Paidge Avenue, which is found right near Brooklyn's border on the Newtown Creek, and lost control of the car, police said. He ended up hitting a security booth in front of 59 Paidge Ave., where the 72-year-old was sitting inside.

Emergency responders found the 72-year-old man with trauma to his legs and brought him to Bellevue Hospital, where he died, police said. Police did not specify whether the man was a security guard at the building, which are offices for Time Warner Cable.
