City Considers These Greenpoint Apartments 'Affordable'
Find out if you can afford an "affordable" home in Greenpoint.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Homes deemed "affordable" by the city are up for grabs in Greenpoint – if you make more than $77,000 a year.
Three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments at 56 Box St. hit the NYC Housing Connect lottery this week and are only available to households earning between $77,246 and $135,590 a year.
The one-bedrooms, which cost $2,253 per month, and the two-bedrooms, which go for $27,16 per month, will be up for grabs (for people who earn 130 percent of the area median income) until June 6, city records show.

The newly constructed six-story building boasts access to parking and a recreation room, but you’ll have to pay extra to use them, according to the NYC Housing Connect website.
These are not the first apartments to hit the affordable housing lottery this year that require high salaries— 33 percent of the 352 affordable units currently listed on the Brooklyn housing lottery require that applicants earn 130 percent of the area median income.

Affordable units in Bushwick, Crown Heights, Clinton Hill and Bushwick buildings required six-figure incomes to apply, even though city records show that about 55 percent of Brooklynites earn less than $60,000 a year.
