The Commodore Damaged By Fire, Kitchen Closed Indefinitely

Patch asked one staff member outside the Williamsburg bar when it will be back in business. "That's what we'd like to know, too," he said.

Update 5:55 p.m.: The Commodore's bar is open, but its kitchen is closed indefinitely. WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — On Wednesday afternoon, The Commodore, a popular Williamsburg restaurant and bar that serves southern fare, was assessing the damage of a massive kitchen fire that broke out Tuesday as people inside cleaned up damage from the fire, and staff members waited outside the bar, unsure of when it would re-open. The bar was not answering its phones Tuesday or Wednesday, and its voicemail box was disconnected.

Two bar staff members confirmed on Wednesday to Patch that no injuries resulted from the fire. One staff member told Patch the fire originated from the deep fryer and spread to the whole kitchen. When Patch asked to see the extent of the damage inside, the staff member referred us to its communications representative.

The Commodore would open at 4 p.m. on Wednesday if it followed its normal business hours. Patch asked a staff member, who preferred to remain anonymous because the fire investigation was still ongoing, when he thought the establishment would re-open. "That's what we'd like to know, too," he said.

Patch put out a call to The Commodore's representative and will update when we hear back.

The bar was damaged in an all-hands-on-deck fire around 4:20 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said. Photos from inside the kitchen taken by a staff member and sent to Patch showed what appeared to be extensive fire damage.
