WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — The funeral for Joseph Stepinski — the 45-year-old shot in the head and killed, allegedly by his neighbor in Greenpoint last week — will be held at Stobierski Funeral Home in Williamsburg at 161 Humboldt St. on Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Stepinski was shot outside his apartment building at 185 Greenpoint Ave. on Monday, March 6 at around 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon, police said. Stepinski was rushed to the hospital, where he died on March 9 of his injuries and became an organ donor, relatives posted to Facebook.
After allegedly shooting Stepinski, suspect Gene Barrett, 51, holed himself up in the building where he and Stepinski both lived for over an hour. Barrett's standoff with police lasted until 4:30 p.m., when police convinced him to come out peacefully, cops said. Barrett is a retired police officer — he left on a disability pension in August 2002.
