Historic Greenpoint Church Could Be Your New Mansion
Here is the "rare live/work mansion opportunity" you've been waiting for.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN -- A landmarked church at the heart of Greenpoint could get a $250,000 renovation and become a single-family home, city records show.
Developers filed plans last week to convert St. Elias Church at 145 Kent St. into a three-story home, according to Department of Buildings records.
"Rare live/work mansion opportunity," an off-market listing on Trulia boasts. "It's the perfect palate for you to create one of New York City's most unique residences."

The plans, which call for renovating the kitchen and adding new stairs and walls inside the 13,800-square-foot space, must be okayed by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, records show.
The church was built in 1869 and has maintained original details such its stained glass windows and woodwork, according to Trulia.

Real estate management company Hirsch Enterprises bought St. Elias for $3.5 million in 2007 and filed the plans to convert the space on Sept. 4, city records show.
Hirsch Enterprises has been trying for years to find a buyer for the property, according to Curbed and the Wall Street Journal.
The Greenpoint Post, which first reported on the recent filings, noted that a small former Sunday School building at 149 Kent St. also appears to be included in the new project.
