'The Lot Radio' Kiosk Shut Down By Health Inspectors

The kiosk was ordered closed after it received 136 violation points, records show.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — A kiosk at the nonprofit radio station The Lot was recently ordered closed by health inspectors for a series of violations.

The kiosk received 136 violation points — nearly five times the minimum to shutdown a business — from the city Department of Health in an inspection earlier this month. Inspectors found that the supervisor of the kiosk did not have a food protection certificate, records show

Violations also included cold food that was held above the necessary temperatures, an inadequate potable supply of water and food that was not protected from potential sources of contamination. The kiosk also did not have a proper sewage disposal system, a facility to wash utensils and equipment or a required toilet facility for its employees and patrons.

The Lot responded to the shutdown on its Facebook page. The nonprofit is working with health inspectors to get the situation resolved as fast as possible, the post said.

"As a lot of you might have noticed by now, The Lot Radio Kiosk has been temporarily shut down by NYC Department of Health," the post said. "As much as this shut down might appear dramatic from the outside it actually triggered the most constructive dialogue we ever had with Department of Health."

The radio will not be affected by the situation and will stream as usual. Patrons are still welcome to come by, but cannot be served anything, it continued.

"The Lot Radio 3 Year Anniversary is definitely still happening and with a little bit of luck it will be the occasion to celebrate the re-opening of the kiosk!," the post concluded.
