iPhone Thief Punches And Mugs Man Chasing Him Through BK: Cops

A man who got his iPhone 11 stolen at Marcy Avenue station tried to run after the thief, and even offered $200 to get it back, police said.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A man who tried to chase after someone who stole his phone at Marcy Avenue station ended up getting punched in the face and had his wallet stolen, police said.

The 26-year-old was riding a northbound J train just after 8 p.m. Sunday, Sep. 29 when a man in a blue hooded sweatshirt snatched his iPhone 11, which had just come out a week before, and ran out of the Marcy Avenue station, police said.

The man ran after the thief and caught up with him near 190 Marcy Ave., about a block from the subway station. He tried to grab his phone back, but instead got punched in the face and fell to the ground, police said.

The thief grabbed the man's wallet from his pocket as he lay on the ground. The 26-year-old tried to offer $200 in exchange for the phone back, but the suspect ended up running away with his phone and the money, police said.

The iPhone 11 had just been released on Sep. 20 and runs upwards of $700 or $1,000.
