Firefighters battled a manhole fire Wednesday afternoon on Noble Street.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — A manhole erupted in flames on Noble Street on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The manhole, near the corner of Franklin and Noble streets, burst into flames just after 2 p.m. Firefighters were still working on controlling the blaze around 2:40 p.m., a spokesman said.

The spokesman did not immediately have other details about the fire, but said there were no injuries reported so far.

Video from the street shows that the fire might have spread to multiple manholes. One manhole cover seems to be on fire near the corner of the two streets while another, further into the intersection, is smoking.

The roads appear to be blocked off by caution tape and FDNY trucks.
