Today in ridiculous Brooklyn real-estate news, we have the 5,000-square-foot penthouse in contract to be sold for around $6.5 million.

According to Curbed New York, that’s the highest price ever paid for a home in Williamsburg. It’s also a full $1.5 million more than the price of the previous record holder — a unit at 330 Wythe Avenue, about a mile north, that sold for around $5 million last year.

A representative for Halstead Property Development Marketing, the firm assigned to the new record-breaking deal, confirmed the in-contract sale to Patch on Thursday afternoon.

The $6.5 million unit in question, No. PH3, is one of four penthouses in the new “Ousten” building at 429 Kent Avenue — a hollow rectangle with a green courtyard that swallows an entire block. (Photos above.)

On its website, Ousten calls itself “the most exciting new development to arrive on South Williamsburg’s vibrant waterfront district.”

“In this stunning building,” the site says, ”Dutch designer Piet Boon brings the elements that have made him an international design talent to a location reminiscent of his native Holland. With Oosten, he pays homage to his Dutch heritage with clean, streamlined elements that harken back to the history of the neighborhood in which they are situated.”

The ground floor of the building hosts a daycare, a library, an art gallery, a gym, a “wellness area,” a steam room, a yoga room and a swimming pool (in addition to a reflection pool on the roof). You can browse the full brochure here.

Sources tell Patch that around 50 percent of the units in the Oosten building have now been purchased.
