New 'Affordable' Williamsburg Apartments Cost $2K Per Month
A dozen new apartments just hit the affordable housing lottery, but some will only go to those making at least $84,000 a year.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — About a dozen apartments have hit the affordable housing lottery in two new buildings on Meserole Street and Manhattan Avenue, but only for those that can afford about $2,000 a month in rent.
Most of the new apartments — one studio, four one bedrooms and three two bedrooms — are up for grabs in the new building at 150 Meserole St., which comes with a rooftop, in-unit washer and dryer and parking.
Each of those apartments will go to those making at least 130 percent of the area median income.

For the studios, which for for $1,689 per month, that means that applicants should make at least $57,909 per year, with a maximum salary of $97,110. The one-bedrooms will go for $1,999 per month and are available only to those that make at least $68,538 per year, with the maximums at $97,110 or $111,020 depending on if one or two people are applying. The two-bedroom apartments are available to two, three or four people that make a combined salary between $75,052 and $111,020, $124,930 or $138,710 per year, respectively.
In the second building, found at 142 Manhattan Ave., applicants should also make 130 percent of the area median income.

That building has three apartments up for grabs that are all two-bedroom units.
Two, three or four people that apply to live in one of those apartments should make a minimum combined salary of $84,000. The maximum limits are the same as those for the Meserole Street two bedrooms.
Both buildings went onto the affordable housing lottery list last week and will be open to applications until an August 2 deadline. They join two other Williamsburg and Greenpoint buildings that are already on the city's list for this month.
Three units are available in a new building at 128 Huron Street. The two one-bedroom units without access to the garden are available for $1,999 per month. Applicants should have a minimum salary of $68,538. The maximum limit is set at $97,110 for one person or $111,020 for two people.
For one spot that comes with access to the garden, applicants should make at least $77,123 a year. That apartment will cost $2,250 a month. The maximum limit is the same as for the unit without garden access.
Seven other units, found at 123, 125 and 127 Boerum Street, are part of the Boerum Residence, which offers a backyard, a rooftop and a virtual doorman to its residents. Six of the seven new spots are two-bedroom units going for $2,350 a month and one three-bedroom is available at $2,450 a month.
For the two-bedroom spots, applicants should be making a minimum of $80,572. The maximum salary limit is set at $111,020 for two people, $124,930 for three people or $138,710 for four people.
The three-bedroom units will go to those making a minimum of $84,000 a year, with the maximum salary set at the same limits for three or four people, $149,890 for five people or $160,940 for six people.
Boerum Residence and the Huron Street spots are only available until July 19.
