New 'Affordable' Williamsburg Apartments Require $77K Salary

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — New apartments have hit the affordable housing lottery in Williamsburg, but only for those that make at least $77,246 a year.

The new units include three one-bedroom spots in a building at 219 South 3rd Street. The building comes with a roof deck, laundry room, bike storage and storage space, records show.

Each spot will cost $2,253 per month and go to those that make at least 130 percent of the area's median income. For these units, that means applicants should make at least $77,246 a year.

If one person is applying, they should make no more than $97,110 a year. If two people are applying, the income cap is a combined $110,020 and for three people it is $124,930.

The new apartments join another Williamsburg building that is on the affordable housing lottery.

Those units, at 54 Throop Ave. building, will go to those making 60 percent of the area median income. They include one studio, one one-bedroom and three two-bedroom spots.

For the studio, which costs $938 per month, applicants should make at least $32,160 per year. The one-bedroom spot will cost $1,080 per month and will go to those making at least $37,029 per year and the two-bedroom spots will each cost $1,223 per month.

The deadline for some other buildings, including at 135 Meserole Ave. and 223 Manhattan Ave., recently expired.

The deadline to apply to the South 3rd Street building is Sep. 30 and the deadline for the Throop Avenue building is Sep. 23.
