New Williamsburg 'Affordable' Apartments Cost $2K Per Month

Renters should make $67,000 to $139,000 a year to afford these Driggs Avenue units that just hit the affordable housing lottery.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A few new apartments have hit the affordable housing lottery in Williamsburg, but they will cost renters nearly $2,000 per month.

Three units in the new building at 801 Driggs Ave. are up for grabs, including two two-bedrooms and one one-bedroom spot.

The one-bedroom option is available to those making at least $66,858 a year, with a maximum yearly salary set at $97,110 for one person and $111,020 if two people are applying. Those apartments will cost $1,950 per month to rent.

The two-bedroom spots require a $77,143 yearly salary between two people with maximum salaries at $111,020 for two people, $124,930 for three people and $138,710 for four people. Each of those apartments costs $2,250 per month. All of the salary requirements for these units is based on 130 percent of the median income for the area.

The Driggs Avenue building comes with a coin-operated laundry room and requires no application fee or broker's fee to apply. Applications opened up on May 24 and will stay open until June 17. Learn more about how to apply here.

These three apartments join about 10 others in Williamsburg that are already on the list.

Those buildings, found at 319 Broadway and 88 Walton Street, were added to the lottery earlier in May and have a deadline of June 7 to apply.

The Broadway building's one-bedroom apartments are available for $2,211 per month, meaning that only those making at least $75,806 can apply. The salary range, which includes those making 130 percent of the area median income, goes up to a $97,110 maximum for one person and a $111,020 limit for two people.

Those interested should apply by the June 9 deadline. Amenities for the building, which is found near the Marcy Avenue subway station between Rodney Street and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, include an intercom system and a rooftop deck.

The 88 Walton Street building has both studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments up for grabs.

The one studio available costs $930 per month, the two one-bedrooms cost $1,000 and the three two-bedrooms cost $1,213 each.

To qualify for the studio, applicants should be making between $31,886 and $44,820 per year, or up to $51,240 if two people are applying. The one-bedroom apartments require a minimum salary of $34,286 and the two-bedrooms a $41,589 minimum. The maximum salary for these two depend on how many people are applying to live there.

The Walton Street building is found near the Lorimer Street M and J train stop and includes an elevator. It is between Throop and Harrison avenues.
