Nature's own little Nativity scene.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Let these photos serve as a reminder that McCarren Park is more than just a warring ground for napping hipsters and kickball captains. A reminder that in fact, McCarren Park is nature.

Reddit user and Greenpoint resident Andréa Zavareei, 39, told Patch that last Friday, aka Good Friday, he had just brunched with a buddy and dropped off his trumpet at a trumpet repair shop — as Greenpoint residents do — when he decided to go for a stroll in the park.

Zavareei "was sitting on the bench watching a man taking photos of yellow flowers," he said via email, when he "heard a thump, and glanced over."

"There the red tailed hawk was, sitting on the pigeon amidst a billowing cloud of feathers," he said. "I pulled out my camera and started shooting."

Zavareei has since uploaded his hawk vs. pigeon pics to Imgur/Reddit, where they will live on as a reminder of McCarren's true savagery. Peruse them below, if you dare.

"I edged closer and closer, shooting constantly, and was so surprised he let me get so far!" Zavareei said. "That's when he got poised to take off, and he flew RIGHT towards my head, pigeon in tow. It smoothly soared up to that tree, which is where I left it."

Zavareei said he named the hawk Harry.

Has anyone else noticed Harry out there curbing the pigeon population in McCarren Park as of late? We'd love more pics or other forms of testimony. Reach out: simone.wilson@patch.com.
