Pokemon Go Bar Crawl Planned in Brooklyn

Now we can all stare drunkenly down at our phones *together.*

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — And here we thought SantaCon was a mess.

Now, a public event in which hundreds of grown humans plan to drink a bunch of alcohol and stare down at their cellphones while moving their bodies forward through space, in order to round up Pokemon characters superimposed onto the streets of Brooklyn (using their phone cameras and GPS locators), will be held in Greenpoint two Saturdays from now, on July 23.

Local gamer Jeff Ramos is organizing the event via Facebook.

"Since so many of us are walking around our neighborhood playing this game and running across neighbors," Ramos wrote on the event page, "I thought it'd be a great idea to organize a bar crawl."

That way, he wrote, attendees can "meet local players, drink tons of booze," and — most importantly — "CAPTURE SOME NEW POKEMON."

Within 24 hours of Ramos posting the event, nearly 150 people had signed up. Another 700 or so had indicated they were interested.

The Saturday crawl will begin at Spritzenhaus, a German beer garden located at Nassau Avenue and Guerney Street, along the northern edge of McCarren Park. The park is home to a Pokemon Gym, where players can train their Pokemon to be better fighters.

Next, the group plans to head north on Manhattan Avenue and west on Greenpoint Avenue, hitting more gyms between drinks at Bar Matchless, Enid's, No Name Bar, Sunshine Laundromat and Black Rabbit. (And doughnuts at Peter Pan, of course.)

Once everyone is nice and sloshed, the crawl will end at Transmitter Park on the Greenpoint waterfront, where — according to Ramos — "tons of water Pokemon" have been hiding.

The event is open to the public, so go ahead and RSVP for you and all the Pokemon and/or booze fiends in your life.

Just like, try not to cause a 10-car pileup or walk into a tree or child or large body of water or whatever.
