Pro-Donald Trump Art Show Canceled by Williamsburg Gallery

The Boiler, a Brooklyn-based gallery, canceled the pro-Trump "#DaddyWillSaveUS" show, and organizer Lucian Wintrich is seeking a new venue.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — The pro-Donald Trump art show, "#DaddyWillSaveUS," organized by gay conservative artist Lucian Wintrich, was given the boot by The Boiler gallery in Williamsburg on Thursday, leaving Wintrich in search of a backup venue in New York City for his show that continues to stir controversy.

The exhibit featuring contributions from VICE co-founder Gavin McInnes and "pharma-bro" Martin Shkreli was scheduled to open at the The Boiler gallery, located at 191 N 14 St. this Saturday, Oct. 8.

Gallery co-owner Joe Amrhein sent a statement to artnet News on Thursday saying that he had misunderstood the nature of the "#DaddyWillSaveUs" art show.

“Our understanding of it, up to this point, is as a satirical, Andy Kaufman-esque project by the comedian/artist. This is not something that we would have shown as part of the gallery program and did not intend to support it," Amrhein told artnet News.

In a followup response Amrhein said that his gallery would no longer host the show: “He can find somewhere else to show it. I’ve been getting too much contradictory information and realized that he’s been lying to me all this time. We gave him the benefit of the doubt, but that was my fault.”

Wintrich took to Twitter later on Thursday to announce that he would instead open "#DaddyWillSaveUs" in a Manhattan gallery.

To add to the fallout with The Boiler, the American Military Partners Association, a non-profit support network for LGBTQ veterans, said it would reject the proceeds that Wintrich promised to donate from his show, Mic reports.
