Quentin Tarantino Themed Bar Opens In Williamsburg This Week

Enjoy a life-size art installation of Uma Thurman in "Kill Bill" while feasting on some "Hateful Eight wings" at this homage to Tarantino.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A bar opening this week on 4th Street might be as close die-hard Quentin Tarantino fans will get to stepping into the filmmaker's mind.

Complete with life-size art installations — including Uma Thurman in her signature "Kill Bill" bodysuit and Jamie Foxx on a horse in "Django Unchained" — the Tarantino-themed bar promises to bring his most famous movies to life.

The new spot, aptly named KillBar, will officially open its doors this Thursday after a soft opening over the last few weeks. Everything from its food, "whimsically named" cocktails and decorations will celebrate the famous director, owner Michael Galkovich said.

"I am a pretty big Quentin Tarantino fan, as are a lot of other people — he has a cult following," Galkovich said. "I just wanted to pay homage to him and his works."

The Thurman and Foxx paintings, done by the bar's creative director Amar Stewart, of Bushwick, will go up this week as the first in a series of ongoing art installations to support the theme, Galkovich said.

The bar's atmosphere will also pay homage to "Mr. Blonde," "Pulp Fiction" and "Inglorious Bastards," which inspired the bar top. Its food, made by a local chef who goes by Nunn, will include themed options like "Hateful Eight" chicken wings and "Big Kahuna" sliders from "Pulp Fiction."

Tarantino movies and the bar's own content will be on displayed throughout, including for movie nights each Monday, Galkovich said.

"We'll have projections throughout to give a chance to step into the scenery," he said.

KillBar isn't Galkovich's first go-around at bringing a theme to life. He previously owned a bar in the Lower East Side that centered around the 1980s and 80s movies, which also brought its theme to life with art installations and murals.

Bargoers can visit his latest brainchild for the grand opening weekend starting Thursday. KillBar is open from 12 p.m. to 4 a.m. each day, with activities and live DJs for the grand opening starting around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Galkovich said.
