Roebling Tea Room Will Close Its Williamsburg Home Memorial Day Weekend, Sign Says

Roebling Tea Room, the brainchild of rock star Syd Silver and Bill Murray's son Homer, will close for good on May 29.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — The beloved restaurant and bar Roebling Tea Room will close at the end of May, according to a sign its management posted on its wall this week.

Roebling Tea Room — the brainchild of Syd Silver, former bassist in the riot grrl band Lunachicks, and Bill Murray’s son Homer — has been serving up cocktails and elegant pub food in a renovated Williamsburg factory at 143 Roebling Street since 2005.

But earlier this week, a new sign appeared on the wall alerting customers the era would come to an end at the end of the month.

“Our lease is done sweet people,” the sign reads, noting the last day of service will be May 29. “Farewell Williamsburg, we love you!”

Silver — who co-owns 21 Greenpoint with her longstanding partner Murray — told Eater that her ten-year lease ended in 2015 and she has since remained in the space thanks to a “handshake agreement” with RedSky Capital, who bought the building in 2014.

Silver added that while she has other projects in mind, she won’t be opening another Roebling Tea Room.

“This restaurant really was about this corner and about this neighborhood,” Silver told Eater. “This was a special place that I can’t really imagine anywhere but here.”
