Attention, Williamsburg and Greenpoint Parents: $25K Grants Available for Your Kid's School

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Local public schools can now apply for up to $25,000 in grant money from the Walentas Family Foundation to support educational programs not covered by their budgets.

The Foundation is run by Brooklyn property developers David and Jed Walentas, the owners of Two Trees.

Public schools in District 14 — which includes Williamsburg, Greenpoint and the upper part of Bed-Stuy — have until May 31 to apply.

Each school can only apply for one grant, and the applications must be submitted by school administrators — so while parents cannot apply themselves, they can certainly encourage leaders at their kids' schools to do so.

Awards will be announced in July, with the funds applied to the 2016-17 school year.

The Foundation is open to funding any kind of program that will "enrich students' learning experiences and help a school to achieve its central mission."
