GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — Audience members at an off-beat comedy festival in Brooklyn over the weekend got a surprise visit from Louis C.K., the latest in the comedian's pop-up performances since he admitted to sexual misconduct in 2017.

C.K. showed up at the Skankfest Comedy Mayhem Festival, held at the Brooklyn Bazaar, on Sunday night for a surprise 20-minute set, TMZ reported. The unsuspecting audience gave C.K. a warm welcome, greeting him with a standing ovation, applause and chanting his name.

The performance was his latest in what some have called a "comeback" since C.K. admitted to exposing himself or masturbating in front of women after allegations in 2017.

TMZ reported that C.K. started off his set by addressing the controversy, saying "If you ever masturbate in front of someone, ask them first. If they say yes, don't do it!"

C.K. has been showing up for surprise stand-up sets since last summer. He most recently faced backlash after a recording of one of the performances showed him making jokes about the Parkland shooting.

Skankfest is a comedy festival in its fourth year that touts itself as being a spot for scandalous content. Its shows ran Friday, Saturday and Sunday with stand-up performances, live podcast recordings and special shows like "The Naked Roast" or "Would You Bang Him?"

"The greatest comedy festival on earth," as Skankfest has dubbed itself, took up three floors of the Brooklyn Bazaar venue on Greenpoint Avenue for the weekend.

TMZ said the festival's promoter, Luis J. Gomez, had worked to get C.K. to do the show and got him to agree just days before.
