Sick Passenger, Onboard Fight Causes L Train Chaos

Three separate incidents left riders waiting for more than a half an hour during their L train commute Tuesday morning.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — L train riders can't seem to catch a break. MTA officials and police were called in to deal with three separate incidents on the subway line during Tuesday morning's commute, leaving some riders waiting for nearly an hour for a train.

Service problems started around 7:45 a.m., when MTA officials said emergency medical service was called to the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenue station to help a sick passenger, according to the NYCT Subway Twitter. A field supervisor helped the person exit the train quickly, officials said.

But then, only several minutes later, MTA officials told riders that more delays were on the way because of door problems on one of the trains. The train was removed from service at the Broadway Junction station.

The third incident began just after 8 a.m., when police had to be called to deal with a fight that broke out on the train at the Lorimer Street station. Train staff are not allowed to break up the fight without police assistance, so the train was stalled at the station until they arrived, officials said.

The fight seemed to break out after one passenger refused to let the train doors close, officials said in Tweets. Police were on the scene by about 8:35 a.m.

Trains were running again shortly after, though the line still might have delays, officials said.

"It's been a rough start to the morning for L riders," one official said in a tweet. "All incidents have cleared, but continue to expect delays as congestion clears."
