Tour Brooklyn's 'Iconic' Sewage Treatment Plant This Valentine's Day, City Suggests

This V-Day, learn how the city digests the sludge of 1 million New Yorkers with the one you love.

GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN — For the adventurous couple — or for the single gal's club looking for a way to take a giant crap on America's most economically exploitative and judgy holiday — NYC officials announced Tuesday that they've planned your perfect Valentine's Day date for 2017.

Head down to the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Visitors Center at 329 Greenpoint Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 3 p.m., Department of Environmental Protection officials said, and plant operators will show you and yours how the city digests 700 million gallons of sludge from 1 million fat, happy New Yorkers each day.

"Tours will include a short overview of the wastewater treatment process," DEP officials said, "followed by a visit to the 120-foot high observation deck located atop the iconic digester eggs. There, visitors will enjoy scenic views of the New York City skyline."
