WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Two neighborhood spots are in the running for Eater's yearly restaurant awards, one for its design and another for its potential as the best bakery in New York City.

Eater announced this week that Gertie, the new spot on Grand Street, and Win Son, the Graham Avenue bakery, are in the running for their annual awards.

Gertie landed in the foodies' Best Design of the Year category, while Win Son is a finalist for the Best Bakery of the Year. The outlet also names a Best Restaurant of the Year.

Win Son will face off against Farine Baking Company in Jackson Heights, Ole & Steen and Fabrique Bakery in Manhattan and another Brooklyn contender, Ciao, Gloria in Prospect Heights.

The foodies praised the restaurant for its "stand-out mochi doughnut," describing it as "the second restaurant from the Win Son team where pastry chef Danielle Spencer makes Taiwanese-American pastries."

Gertie, the only Brooklyn spot to get a nod for best design, was lauded for its "light and airy" decor that makes the all-day restaurant feel "warm and inviting," according to the reviewers.

The two Williamsburg spots also join Brooklyn's only Best Restaurant of the Year contender.

Park Slope's Korean hotspot Haeyneo will face off against Greenwich Village restaurant Llama San, another Korean outpost Kawi in Hudson Yards, Italian newcomer Rezdôra and French Manhattan spot Wayan for the best restaurant category.

"All of these finalists have either opened or come into their own in a new way since we declared the winners last year, and all of them were key contributors to making 2019 a great year of eating in New York," Eater wrote. "Winners will be crowned, with much fanfare, on December 10, 2019."
