SOUTH WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Shimon Meisels, a 5-year-old Orthodox Jewish child who lived at 200 Wallabout St. near the north end of Bed-Stuy, died Thursday night after falling from his family's 5th-floor balcony around 9 p.m., according to the NYPD.
(The Jewish news site JP Updates, however, reported the child's name as Shimon Yisroel Meizlish.)

Right after the child fell, paramedics with the Orthodox neighborhood's private ambulance service tried to give him CPR, the news site reported.
When that didn't work, he was rushed to Brooklyn Hospital in Fort Greene, police said — where he was pronounced dead.

The apartments at 200 Wallabout have relatively tall fencing on their balconies. It wasn't immediately clear how little Shimon toppled over his balcony's fence.
"The investigation is ongoing,"Â the NYPD said in a statement sent to Patch.
