Williamsburg 'Affordable' Apartments Require $78K Salary
Apartments in three buildings hit the affordable housing lottery, some that require a $78,000 salary and others that require only $33,000.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Apartments in three buildings in Williamsburg and Greenpoint have hit the affordable housing lottery, some for those making as little as $33,000 a year and some requiring a $78,000 salary.
The apartments, found at 135 and 135 Meserole Ave. and 223 Manhattan Ave., are in buildings that previously had units on the lottery that expired. The new additions include include four one-bedroom spots, three on Manhattan Avenue and one at Meserole, and a two-bedroom unit at Meserole Avenue.
The cheapest options are the Meserole Avenue apartments, which will go to those making 60 percent of the area median income.

For the one-bedroom spot, that means that those who make at least $32,499 per year can apply. The rent is $947 per month for that unit. Applicants should not make more than $44,820 a year for one person, $51,240 per year for two people and $57,660 per year for three people.
The two-bedroom spot will cost $1,072 per month and can go to those making at least $36,755 per year. At least two people are required to apply to this apartment. The income limits are the same as the one-bedroom for two and three people and $64,020 for three people or $69,180 for five people.

In the Manhattan Avenue building, applicants should make more than double that amount.
The three one-bedroom spots will go for $2,276 per month and require a $78,035 minimum salary. Applicants shouldn't make more than $97,110 for one person, $111,020 for two people and $124,930 for three people.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 10 for the two Meserole Avenue buildings and Sept. 9 for the Manhattan Avenue building.
The Meserole Avenue and Manhattan Avenue buildings also join another Williamsburg building in the lottery.
That building, found at 236 Stagg St., has six apartments up for grabs. They require at least a $71,589 salary for the one-bedroom spot and an $84,000 salary for the two-bedroom units.
