Large Fire Breaks Out On Kent Avenue In Williamsburg

Thick plumes of smoke from the fire could be seen across the East River in Manhattan.

WILLIAMSBURG, NY — A large fire broke out on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg late Saturday afternoon.

An FDNY spokesperson told Patch the fire broke at 119 Kent Avenue. The blaze sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky that could be seen from across the East River in Manhattan.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:17 p.m. and the fire was under control just under an hour later at 5:15 p.m, the spokesperson said. Some 105 fire personnel were at the scene fighting the fire.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire broke out just blocks away from Smorgasburg, the outdoor food market that is open at East River State Park on Saturdays. Along with Smorgasburg, the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair was also scheduled for Saturday at the same location.

According to information from the FDNY's automated alert system, the fire had extended into a neighboring building.
