Williamsburg Gastropub Shut Down For Mice, Sewage And Food Storage Problems, City Records Show

The Bedford was forced to close Thursday after health inspectors reported evidence of vermin and improperly stored food, records show.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Health inspectors shut down The Bedford, an upscale pub and speakeasy on Bedford Avenue, after they reported sewage problems, evidence of mice and improperly stored food in the kitchen, city records show.

The locally-sourced restaurant on Bedford Avenue and North 11th Street was forced to close after the Department of Health reported five major health code violations on July 13.

Inspectors reported evidence of mice, poor plumbing — including a sewage disposal system in disrepair — and food that was kept at the wrong temperature and unprotected from contamination, according to Health Department records.

The Williamsburg eatery at 110 Bedford Ave. was closed when it earned 49 violation points — Health Department rules require inspectors to shut down any kitchen that receives a score of 28 or more.

The Bedford on Bedford serves up locally-sourced, high-end pub food — think mac ‘n’ cheese burgers, chorizo burritos and pulled pork flatbreads— in a renovated garage meant to “evoke a rustic charm,” according to the restaurant website.
