Williamsburg Grandma Who Died Saving Neighbors From Fire 'Was Always Fighting for the Community'
Patricia Serrano, 68, was remembered by friends and family Monday as "a giving, fun person" and "a caregiver to many," according to reports.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Patricia Serrano, the 68-year-old grandmother who died in an apartment fire at 232 Metropolitan Ave. last week, was remembered at her funeral Monday, held at Williamsburg's First Spanish Presbyterian Church, as a light and a caregiver in her community, according to a dispatch from the New York Daily News.
"With her dying breaths," the Daily News reported, "she knocked on the doors of her neighbors' apartments as flames engulfed her six-story Greenpoint building."

Serrano later died of a heart attack at Woodhull Hospital, where in life she worked as public health assistant, according to DNAinfo.
“My mom was a happy, happy person," her daughter, Carolyn Nieves, reportedly said at her mom's funeral Monday. "She devoted her life to my brother, my daughter, my nephew, and to me. She was a caregiver to many. If I have a hole in my heart, I know everyone else here does too.”
