10-Year-Old Cyclist Killed By Licenseless Brooklyn Driver: Cops

Victor Mejia faces criminal charges for fatally crashing into 10-year-old Dalerjon Shahobiddinov in Kensington this weekend, police said.

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — A 10-year-old boy was killed riding his bike in a Brooklyn street when he was hit by an SUV driver without a license, according to police.

Victor Mejia, 29, faces criminal charges after he tried to turn left at Foster Avenue and Seton Place just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday and slammed into Dalerjon Shahobiddinov, 10, in the crosswalk, police said.

Emergency responders rushed Dalerjon to Maimonides Medical Center but doctors could not save his life, said police.

Mejia, of Kensington, stayed at the crash and was arrested on charges of failure to yield to a bicyclist, driving without a license and failure to exercise due care, police said.

Dalerjon is one of 24 cyclists to die in the streets of New York City this year.
