212 Burgers Opens On 16th Street

The new burger joint opened last Friday.

WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — 212 Burgers is now open on 16th Street and Prospect Park West, in the Windsor Terrace/Park Slope no-man's-land.

The 125-square-foot space serves burgers, fries and milkshakes for delivery and carry-out only, though owner Jason Cicu hopes to install a couple of tables on the sidewalk outside.

Cicu, who is originally from Turkey, opened the place with his wife and cousin. He used to be a partner at Brooklyn Pita on Seventh Avenue.

"We are operating as a family - my wife, me and my cousin," Cicu told Patch. "We were looking at spots. We got this like eight months ago. We renovated everything by ourselves, that’s why it took so long."

A few months ago, their black awning popped up on top of the old location for Shawarma Mediterranean Grill. The 212 name comes from the address, 212 Prospect Park West, even though the window is on 16th Street.

Cicu also said there is no affiliation with the corner deli that bears the same address. He said he has no plans for expansion right now.

"The spot is like 125 square feet. So we are not going to get bigger or anything," Cicu said. "We’re just going to be a local, good burger joint. Just takeout and delivery."

Cicu said while the meat is not organic, he gets it from Portokali market in Sheepshead Bay.

"It’s just a simple burger. Clean meat, fresh ingredients," he said. "Even if we wanted to, we couldn’t keep so much inside. Every-day, fresh preparation is the main idea."

Besides beef, 212 offers fish, veggie and felafel burgers; a couple of salad options; fries, ravioli and mac and cheese as sides; wings; and milkshakes for desert.

The store is doing just a "soft opening" for now with hours from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. Next week, it will pick up normal business hours of 12 p.m. until 3 a.m.
