Beginning September 1st, All New NYC Taxis Will Look Like This
Goodbye yellow cab, hello Euro van.
In case you missed it: On Friday, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission gave the city’s taxi drivers a final deadline for putting any new cab into service that is not ex-Mayor Bloomberg’s “Taxi of Tomorrow.”
Beginning September 1, 2015, all new taxi vehicles must be of the sleek, zippy Nissan NV200 variety.
“We were able to customize the car in order to deliver on all the requests that were made by the city,” said Nissan’s CEO when the prototype was unveiled in 2012. ”So we’re going to have a car that is very reliable, extremely comfortable, very modern and hopefully this is going to be a kind of showcase for not only our brand, but for all the taxis of the world.”

According to the New York Times:
Hundreds of taxi owners have already moved to the boxy NV200, which has sliding doors and room for four passengers. Commission officials estimate that the model could eventually make up as much as 80 percent of the fleet of about 13,500 yellow taxis.
