Brooklyn Blogger Adopts New Jersey Cat Resembling Adam Driver

If every cat had a doppelganger from "Girls" and/or "Star Wars," perhaps Brooklyn could solve the world's stray-cat crisis.

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — Until last Saturday, Corey, later named ”Catam Driver” and later still ”Katlo Ren,” was just another houseless housecat languishing in the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Eatontown, New Jersey.

But thanks to a growing conspiracy within the Brooklyn blogosphere one hour east — in which the cat was revealed to be the cat version of human actor and Brooklyn Heights resident Adam Driver— Katlo is now ”being petted and snuggled” well into the night in a single-family apartment in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Below, a timeline of the homecoming.

  • xoJane.com executive editor Marci Robin finds a photo of the cat on the SPCA’s website and tweets it to her thousands of followers, comparing it to ”Girls” and ”Stars Wars: The Force Awakens” star Adam Driver.
  • Adam Driver fans everywhere, and cat fans everywhere, and fans of cats who look like people everywhere — so everyone, basically — flipped out.

... when the tweet first went up, I had gazed into the eyes of this cat and felt two things deep in my soul 1) that I loved him and 2) that he was meant to be with me. Not only was his face amazingly unique and funny, but he was described as being snuggly and “great with kids,” and I have a four-year-old son.

  • McCombs said she called the shelter immediately, but that the cat had already been adopted. She was crushed. Then, when THAT adoption fell through, she rushed to the shelter to claim the cat — only to discover someone else had gotten there first.
  • But let’s face it. Catam Driver was destined to end up in Brooklyn.

And then, a miracle happened. Because the other interested adoptee was allergic to some breeds of cats, and knew that she needed several hours to make sure Corey wouldn’t cause a reaction, she ceded to me.

“Emily, do you want to adopt Corey?” the shelter employee turned to me.

I nodded mutely, overcome with emotion. (I realize that this sounds like I am being cheesy and exaggerating for dramatic effect. I am not.)

Corey had already started to go a little viral before, but as I was sitting down signing the paperwork to adopt him, I was seeing articles pop up about him in new places every time I checked my phone. I realized that I was currently adopting a cat that was legitimately “hot on the Internet.”

Going forward, the general public can observe the many Adam Driver-like faces and poses of Corey, now named Kylo Ren after his doppelganger’s character in Star Wars, on the cat’s personal Instagram account. A happy ending for all.
