WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — Construction has begun for a new condominium complex on a lot that housed Brooklyn's most prominent flower shop at the turn of the 20th century, city records show.

A three-story, 12 apartment complex is going up on the corner of McDonald Avenue and Fort Hamilton Parkway, according to the Department of Buildings.

Owners, identified in city records as 79 Locust Ave LLC, bought the land for $2.9 million in 2016 and filed plans for the development in 2017, according to city records.

The lot was once home to the Frank Manker & Sons floral shop, which was in business as early as 1907, and whose greenhouses can be seen in the Brooklyn Visual Heritage archives. Phillip Mankar, one of the family florists, was memorialized by a 1967 New York Times obituary.
