A 33-year-old Ditmas Park woman died while in police custody Sunday morning after she was arrested for violating an order of protection against a relative.
Police were called to the woman's apartment building between Caton and Church avenues shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday to break up a loud argument between a 79-year-old woman and a 33-year-old relative who was living with her, police said.
Police learned of the restraining order and arrested the younger woman.*Â
The 33-year-old woman was arrested at 1:51 a.m. and taken to Kings County Hospital for what police believed to be intoxication. Kings County released her at 9 a.m. and she was taken to the 70th Precinct, in Kensington, for processing.
Ninety minutes later, she was taken to Central Booking at Brooklyn Criminal Court to await her arraignment, according to the NYPD. The next morning, at 6:40 a.m., the woman was taken to Brooklyn Hospital for what officials believed to be seizures. She was pronounced dead at 6:58 a.m., police said. *An NYPD spokesman said that it's possible to have a restraining order against someone who lives with you. The order does not necessarily have to stipulate that a certain distance be kept, it can bar any behavior (including "clipping your nails") with approval of a judge.
