Even That Elephant Couldn't Save Mindy Meyer's Campaign

The Diva of the District was clobbered by incumbent Kevin Parker, but she still earned a few votes.

Elle Woods-aspirant Mindy Meyer may have been crushed in Tuesday's state Senate race against incumbent Kevin Parker, but she still managed to earn a whopping 2,553 votes, NY1 reports.

Meyer, a 22-year-old law school student from Flatbush, enjoyed a brief flash of fame over the past few months with her colorful attempt to oust Parker, D-Brooklyn, from his 21st District seat.

Despite having a website the hue of a Barbie Dream House, a platform built on such platitudes as "I have no experience in corruption" and a pink-clad elephant serving as the guest of honor at a fundraising function, Meyer nevertheless managed to sway nearly 3 percent of voters in her favor.

Meyer's website has not been updated to reflect the loss, with the words "I'm a Senator and I know it" still winking from the header. The last update on her Twitter account was made on Oct. 26, offering a wan 140-character explanation for her failure to materialize at her only scheduled debate. ("TJC was informed about my school commitments (midterms) & didn't accomodate me. Parker's volatile nature is another reason for my no show," it reads.)

In light of her $500 a plate fundraiser only managing to attract 25 supporters, Gawker's Camille Dodero wonders who, precisely, were the other 2,500 voters that cast their ballot for the Diva of the District?
