Fort Greene Park Conservancy's 12th Annual Halloween Festival

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. Fort Greene Park, 123 DeKalb Ave. 

Why Go: Along with the usual pumpkin patches and face painting, this festival will also feature pets stuffed into costumes under the adorable moniker "PUPkin." Animals have historically arrived dressed as everything from bumble bees to Caribbean tourists to trees, and this year will be no different—even last October's freak snowstorm wasn't enough to scare away more than 100 costumed pets and their determined owners. 

Cost: Free to attend, $5 to register pets. 

Fourth Annual Masquerade Macabre Halloween Party

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 27 at Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 Fourth Ave.  

Why Go: The $20 ticket price seems like a pretty sweet deal for the long list of horrifying delights packed into the Brooklyn Lyceum. To wit, the all-night party features two dance floors, face (and body!) painting, fortune tellers, aerial performers and all manner of brass bands, beat boxers and stilt-walkers. A VIP ticket also gains you access to the "absinthe den," from which we imagine you'll emerge sometime next week with the name "Bertha" tattooed to your left thigh. 

Cost: $20, $10 after 2 a.m. VIP tickets are $30.  

Bare! True Stories of Sex, Desire and Romance

When/Where: Sunday, Oct. 28, from 8 to 10 p.m at The Bell House, 149 7th St. 

Why Go: Listen to an assortment of comedians and entertainers, including UCB's John Flynnand and Urban Erotika's Mo Beasley, share tales of the their sexual exploits, guaranteed to take your mind off of whatever deviant acts you commited on Saturday while locked in an absinthe den (see above). 

Cost: $10

Late October Walking Tours at Green-Wood Cemetery

When/Where: Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th St. 

Why Go: What better place to soak up the Halloween spirit than the Green-Wood Cemetery, which boasts 478-acres of beautiful fall foliage above ground and hundreds of "permanent residents" buried below? This tour, led by Green-Wood historian (and Patch blogger) Jeff Richman will take visitors past the graves of the Wizard of Oz, George Washington’s favorite dentist, the founders of Spiritualism and more. The tour will also include a trip to the Catacombs, usually closed to the public.

Cost: $20 for non-members, $15 for members

Haunted Carousel at Prospect Park

When/Where: Oct. 27 and 28, 12 to 5 p.m. at Prospect Park Carousel

Why Go: Is there anything creepier than bobbing atop a 100-year-old carousel horse while a giant, multi-eyed arachnid gazes at you from the distance? From Prospect Park's website: "Creepy bats, scary cats, and spiders will watch you ride to the sounds of chilling Halloween music!" Ah yes, the chilling music. That is what will make this weird.

Cost: $2 per ride
