Homeless Burglar Sexually Abused 72-Year-Old Woman, Cops Say
Tyrique Rushing has been arrested for attacking and robbing an elderly couple in their Brooklyn home last month, police said.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Police arrested a homeless man accused of breaking into a Brooklyn home, beating the elderly man and sexually assaulting the woman he found inside, then fleeing the scene in the couple's car.
Tyrique Rushing, 20, a man and woman forced their way into the home of a 72-year-old man and 71-year-old woman on Madison Place and Avenue R at about 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 8, police said.
The three burglars slashed the man's cheek and swung an unknown object at his head, then demanded he hand over his property, said police.

The burglars sexually assaulted the woman, then grabbed a handgun, the keys to the couple's blue Honda Sedan and drove away, police said.
Emergency responders rushed the couple to Maimonides Medical Center were treated and later released, said police.

Police arrested Rushing's alleged accomplices — Lance Jyrkinen, 20, and 25-year-old Shirnel Sobers — one day after the crime.
Rushing was arrested on Friday and charged attempted murder, criminal sex act, sex abuse, robbery, unlawful imprisonment and unauthorized use of a vehicle, among other charges.
