Kensington Community to Hold Vigil for Bangladesh Factory Workers

Community members will gather on Saturday to mourn the 112 lives lost in the deadly November blaze.

A vigil for the garment factory workers killed in last month's fire in Bangladesh will be held in Kensington on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. 

The event will feature performances from Bangladeshi artists and speeches from Bangladeshi community leaders. It was also be attended by Councilman Brad Lander, D-Park Slope.  

Following the vigil, participants are also invited to join a rally at Golden Farm at 329 Church Ave. as residents and workers demand better pay and working conditions for employees there.

The vigil will be held at the corner of McDonald and Church avenues in Kensington. 

The Nov. 25 blaze killed 112 factory employees, prompting an outcry from labor groups for improved working conditions.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, more than 500 people have died in Bangladesh factory fires since 2006.
