Kensington Stables' Secret Buyer Is BK Concrete Mogul: Report

John Quadrozzi Jr., owner of Gowanus Bay Terminal, is the secret buyer who saved Kensington Stables from bankruptcy, Crain's reported.

WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn concrete mogul is the secret buyer who saved Kensington Stables from closing in December, according to reports.

John Quadrozzi Jr. — owner of Gowanus Bay Terminal in Red Hook — is the anonymous buyer who snagged the stables at auction last year and has promised to keep them open, Crain’s New York Business reported.

“When all else failed, I jumped in,” Quadrozzi told Crain’s, but refused to say how much he paid for the stables at 51 Caton Place.

Quadrozzi will dub the horse home with a new name — Prospect Park Stable — and, under the name Brooklyn Equine, run it with help of Walker Blankenship, the former manager, Crain’s reported.

News first broke in February that the stable would have to be sold to pay off Blankenship's father's mounting debts.

The city tried to buy the property in August, but ultimately failed because officials couldn’t guarantee Blankenship would remain as stable operator.

Quadrozzi told Crain’s that he and Blackenship will work together to modernize the barn, set up a composting facility and work with community groups to improve the Prospect Park bridle path.

The developer also floated the idea of building seven or eight floors of apartments above the stable.

Blackenship posted the news on his Facebook page on Friday and was quickly barraged with notes of congratulations from his followers.

“Is this the outcome you’d hoped for?” asked Beth Krone Downes

Blankenship replied, “It certainly is the best outcome possible.”
