New Kensington Restaurant 'Propellerhead' Closes After One Month

The dog-friendly restaurant celebrated its grand opening in early September.

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — New Kensington restaurant Propellerhead has apparently closed about one month after opening, as previously reported by Ditmas Park Corner.

Patch profiled the restaurant's managers Ian Stickland and Brittany Echlin just last week, both of whom spoke excitedly of their menu (including a canine-reviving brisket), upcoming events and hiring needs.

But on Sept. 26, the day our article was published, the restaurant's Facebook page announced that the business was up for sale.

"Bad news folks," a posting read, "the current owners of Propellerhead have decided to close the doors in ten days time. We are seeking a buyer as we, the staff, would love nothing more than to continue to serve you the amazing food we create here. If anyone is interested please contact us ASAP!"

Phone and email messages left on Monday for the business were not immediately returned, and as of 3 p.m., the restaurant was closed. A string of blue flags announcing its grand opening were still hanging from nearby lampposts.

According to Ditmas Park Corner, owner Paul-Gabriel Wiener made the decision to close due to the money he was losing on the business.

“We got some bad advice from various sources and encountered setbacks beyond our control," Weiner told the news site. "We gave it our best shot. I know they [Echlin and Stickland] put their hearts and souls into it."

Eichlin reportedly described the decision as "abrupt," saying that she and Stickland "weren’t given enough time to build enough of a customer base.”

Weiner offered a different account, saying that he "put my life savings into making [the business] possible, and I really wanted it to work out. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t afford to put any more into keeping the place afloat.”

Ditmas Park Corner also reported that those interested in buying the business should email propellerheadbk@gmail.com, adding that a sale price has yet to be set.

Patch has reached out to Propellerhead for more information, and we'll update this post when we receive it.
