
We admit we get a little peevish about holiday decorations that have overstayed their welcome. (Despite our ribbing, some Prospect Park West businesses have yet to pack up their holiday window displays for the year.) Â
But as much as we disdain the stray reindeer or wreath, there's something especially disturbing about a forgotten nativity scene. We snapped this shot at an undisclosed location on E. 3rd St. Let's take a closer look.Â
Exposure to the elements has left Mary and Joseph with a light patina of filth, giving them a (probably accurate) air of world-weariness. Joseph's once bright frock is now flecked with mud, and the color has drained from Mary's face. This is understandable. They had a rough night.Â

As for baby Jesus? He may have been fresh-faced and regal back in December, but now, the plastic messiah has the bleary countenance of a grizzled alcoholic, the emotion long since worn from his dead painted eyes.Â
At his feet, a Valentine's Day bear, freshly drenched from the night's rain, clutches a stuffed heart as he too awaits his fate.Â
