Planned Kensington Pastry Shop and Cafe Lauches Kickstarter Campaign
Feeling generous? A $5,000 donation gets you a six course meal for 16 people.

KENSINGTON, BROOKLYN — Der Pioneer, a pastry shop and cafe in Kensington that aims to open this month at 727 Church Ave., has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help cover its initial expenses.
Founders and executive chefs Greg Barbiero and Björn Böttcher told Patch last month that they'll be offering both savory dishes, including sandwiches, salads, quiches and burgers, and home-made German delicacies (Björn Böttcher's specialty), including German-style apple strudel, stollen (like panettone bread with dried fruits and nuts) and bon-bons.

In a video posted on their Kickstarter page, the duo, who met in 2010 while working at the former Ciano NYC, say they're hoping to raise $50,000 to pay for things like "the high-end cost of a ventilation system."
Der Pioneer is offering a range of thank you gifts for ever donor level, from a pin in exchange for a $10 donation, free coffee for a week for $25, and a six-course meal for 16 people for $5,000, along with complementary beverages and a free cake.
