Police Search for Suspect in Knifepoint Robbery

After pulling up in a van, the suspect stole the victim's phone while he was using it.

A knife-wielding robber stole a man's iPhone in Sunset Park around 8 p.m. on Sunday. 

According to police, the 43-year-old victim was using his phone in front of an apartment complex on 44th Street near 8th Avenue when a light-colored minivan pulled up and a man holding a knife stepped out.

The suspect forced the iPhone from the victim's hand and climbed back into the van, which took off along 44th Street toward 9th Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

Police describe the suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic male between 35 and 40-years-old who stands approximately 5-foot-8. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and has a tattoo on his left forearm.

The NYPD has a program to help recover stolen iPhones and other valuables called Operation Identification. For more information see the attached PDF.
