Prospect Farm in Windsor Terrace Is Looking For New Members
Want to grow a community garden while getting to know other Brooklynites?
WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — Want to grow a community garden while getting to know other Brooklynites? Check out Prospect Farm, a non-profit, cooperative project that is growing a Community Supported Agriculture Farm in a formerly vacant Windsor Terrace parking lot. The organization is looking for new members for 2017 and will hold an organizational meeting this Friday.
The farm, which was started in March 2010, is a small piece of land—about 5,000-square-feet—at 1194 Prospect Ave. The goal of the project is to produce healthy, local food as an alternative to industrial food, grow healthier soil through a community composting project, and build community in Windsor Terrace.
Membership is open to anyone who wishes to join. Members of Prospect Farm will: improve and farm the land; support the Brooklyn Food Coalition and other initiatives for food sovereignty and food justice; and sustain ties with local organizations, businesses and residents.
