Prospect Park To Get Misting And Fitness Stations

The $750,000 project is expected to be completed by spring 2019, park officials said.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN – The Prospect Park Parade Ground will get a $750,000 renovation that will bring a cooling misting line, an adult fitness area and new seating to the park, officials announced.

New plans for the swath of fields directly south of Prospect Park were announced by City Council Member Mathieu Eugene and Prospect Park Alliance, the nonprofit that runs the park, on Friday.

“We are making a number of upgrades to the surrounding area that will benefit residents who frequently use the park,” said Eugene. “Providing free resources that make physical fitness accessible to the public is essential to the overall wellbeing of our community.”

The project — which officials predict will be completed by spring 2019 — includes plans to install a 12 pieces of fitness equipment and a misting line next to soccer fields nine and 10, reconstruct the volleyball court and add shade trees and new seating, officials said.

“We are deeply grateful to Council Member Eugene for his long-standing support of Prospect Park Alliance and our work to keep the Park green and vibrant for the diverse communities that consider the Park its backyard,” said Sue Donoghue, President, Prospect Park Alliance.
