Public Hearing Scheduled To Discuss Kensington Developments

Brooklyn Community Board 7 will hold a public hearing Wednesday night on a developer's proposal to rezone a Caton Place lot for high-rises.

KENSINGTON, NY — Kensington's community board will hold a public hearing Wednesday night to discuss a real estate developer's application to rezone a Caton Place lot for new apartment buildings.

Developers revealed plans to construct two mixed-use apartment towers at 57 Caton Place last year. Preliminary designs presented to a community meeting in August of 2017 showed the two nine-story towers, one facing Caton Place and the other facing Ocean Parkway. The renderings also showed a green space in between the two 95-feet-tall buildings

Since the reveal, the developers have filed a Uniform Land Use Review Procedure application to rezone the lot from commercial to residential uses. Without the rezoning, the development would not be able to go forward.

Kensington residents are asked to attend a meeting Wednesday night at P.S. 130 Upper School — located on Caton Place between East 7th and 8th streets — to discuss the application. The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m., according to Community Board 7.
