South Brooklyn Fire Spreads To Multiple Garages, Injures 1, Officials Say (Updated)

A three-alarm fire burned for more than two hours Friday afternoon in multiple buildings along 61st Street. Here's the latest from the FDNY.

BENSONHURST, BROOKLYN — Nearly 150 firefighters battled a three-alarm fire for more than two hours Friday afternoon in multiple buildings along 61st Street in northern Bensonhurst, just south of the Kensington and Borough Park neighborhoods, according to city fire officials. One civilian was treated at the scene for "minor injuries," an FDNY spokesman said.

Friday's fire erupted around 3 p.m. in a garage adjacent to a two-story home at 2062 61st St. near 21st Avenue, the FDNY spokesman said, and quickly spread to "multiple garages" nearby.

The fire was declared "under control" at 5:17 p.m.

"Expect smoke & traffic delays in area," city officials tweeted Friday afternoon. "People nearby avoid smoke, close windows."
